World Endeavors offers four meaningful ways for participants to go abroad: interning, studying, volunteering, and customized group programs. Each offers a different type of immersive experience in the host country and suits the needs of a different kind of traveler. Not sure which is right for you? Read more about each type of program below.
Interning Abroad
An internship is a professional work experience that gives the participant exposure to a career field. In today’s competitive job market, internships – and particularly internships abroad – are increasingly valuable résumé items. Interns learn about the work environment and daily routines in a career field that is of interest to them, and they return home more flexible, mature, and prepared for their careers. Going abroad for an internship is a particularly valuable opportunity to see a career field from a different perspective and to understand different ways of working.
Studying Abroad
Living and studying in a foreign country is an educational experience that nothing else can match. Students who choose to study abroad earn credits toward their degree by enrolling in classes at a university in another country. By studying abroad for a summer, a semester, or a year, students broaden their horizons, experience a new teaching style, make new friends from different backgrounds, and immerse themselves in a local language and culture. Through World Endeavors’ immersive study abroad programs, students become part of a school’s community and gain first-hand experience of student life in the host country.
Volunteering Abroad
World Endeavors’ volunteer programs place participants on projects that protect local environments, provide care for vulnerable populations, construct homes and schools, and improve the lives of local community members. World Endeavors volunteers are placed on projects that are organized and staffed by local community members and are short-staffed or in need of additional help. Volunteers from all educational and professional backgrounds can offer help on these projects, and they come away with a deeper understanding of the host culture and of their own ability to help work for change.
Customized Group Programs Abroad
For groups of five or more who want to travel abroad together, World Endeavors offers custom programs that suit the interests, schedule, and budget of each group. Groups may come from universities, high schools, clubs, or churches, or they may just be a group of friends wishing to build a customized international experience. These groups might be traveling together for an academic, interning, or volunteering experience. World Endeavors staff in the US and in the host country work together with the group to create the right experience for them, whether it lasts for a week or for a whole semester.
