Want to know what it’s like to participate in an Environmental Conservation effort? Roll up your sleeves and work alongside local farmers at a mangrove nursery. Your program starts in Hua Hin – a lively fishing town and popular tourist destination. Your role will vary depending on the current need of the tree nursery. Your responsibilities may involve preparing the seed and soil, watering the plants, and planting the mangroves. As a volunteer, you will assist with environmental conservation and sustainability efforts, gain invaluable knowledge about the ecological challenges faced in the region, and join local efforts to educate the community youth about the initiative and related environmental matters to encourage their consistent and proactive participation. Activities may include:

– Caring for seedlings and learning how to maintain a tree nursery
– Preparing the land and planting trees
– Community education on the importance of reforestation
– Creating a “”green wall”” reusing plastics, and planting and installing vertical vegetable gardens

This project has an additional fee of $40 per week.

This site is bordered by a mangrove forest and consists of a center dedicated to train youth – from rural communities in Nosy Be and from the mainland about professional organic farming. As a conservation participant, you will first learn about the mangrove forest in Nosy Be, its richness, uses and threats. You will first work on designing an environmental teaching manual for children. After this you can begin our community environmental education outreach program, helping to highlight the importance of mangroves and their sustainability to the local communities and schools. Our hope through this project is to conserve mangrove plantations and reverse the trend of deteriorating mangrove sites, which has seen a rapid decrease during recent years.

This can realistically only be achieved through the education of younger generations, combined with the continual physical work of planting new mangroves.

That’s why we’ll be asking you to serve as a fortifier of our natural coastal barrier, which is slowing storm surges, reducing beach erosion, cleaning the beaches. We also need your help with encouraging environmental conservation through training sessions with children.

Plastic water bottles and plastic food wrappers are of great concern and you will often see people simply throwing these on the ground, as food in Bali were traditionally wrapped in biodegradable banana leaves. The relationship between humans and the environment is an important part of the Balinese culture and the aim of this project is to instill environmental education in the children at a young age, imparting your message in a fun and dynamic manner. The emphasis is on hands on techniques, getting the children out and about in nature and working together. Participants spend two hours each morning planning their campaign and go to schools in Ubud area in the afternoon.
