Living la Pura Vida in Costa Rica

A phrase that literally translates to Pure Life or Full of Life, “Pura Vida” is used in countless situations and can be seen to embody the Costa Rican approach to living.  The pace of life in Costa Rica is relaxed, and locals, who affectionately refer to themselves as “Ticos,” place a high value on time with family and friends.  World Endeavors participants who travel to Costa Rica often find themselves welcomed as part of the family almost immediately upon arrival, and they enjoy the opportunity to share meals, go for a stroll, practice their Spanish, and even dance the night away at family parties.  It’s hard to spend time in Costa Rica without absorbing a bit of la Pura Vida for oneself.

World Endeavors offers international internship and volunteer abroad programs in Costa Rica. Internships give participants resume-boosting, real-world experience in a variety of professional fields. Volunteer projects connect participants with service opportunities at non-profit social welfare, education and wildlife protection and environmental advocacy organizations.

Perspectives

It was amazing. My host family was extremely nice and offered to go places with me. My host mom was an amazing cook and she taught me how to cook some typical Costa Rican dishes.
