The World Endeavors Study in Israel program takes place at the University of Haifa. Israel is known for its rigorous academic institutions, and the University of Haifa is no exception. As the largest comprehensive research university in northern Israel, the University of Haifa is committed to academic excellence and social responsibility. International students at the University of Haifa have the opportunity to take courses alongside Israeli students in subjects specific to Israel’s culture and history as well as courses relevant to a variety of majors. Internship and volunteer opportunities are also made available to participants, allowing students to truly experience Israel first-hand through community engagement. The city of Haifa itself is the perfect destination to gain an understanding of Israel’s unique culture that harmoniously merges histories and religions. As one of the safest cities in the region, Haifa offers students opportunities to explore the cities religious and historic sites, all while providing beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Looking for courses taught in English but in a truly unique location? The program at the University of Haifa is a great fit for students in a variety of academic disciplines, but who are also looking to learn a bit of Israel’s unique and history past. Participants can choose from courses in common subjects such as Communications, Psychology, and Economics but also explore courses such as Hebrew and Peace & Conflict Resolution.

REQUIREMENTS

  • The University of Haifa International School’s admissions criteria require study abroad students to have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
  • No previous Hebrew or Arabic language experience needed
  • Admissions requirements for all programs

Location

Located between a wide bay on the Mediterranean Sea and the peak of Mount Carmel, the sloping city of Haifa contains an intriguing mix of churches and mosques, historical and modern districts, and mountain and sea. As the third largest city of Israel, this vibrant port city attracts tourists and business from around the world. Students can enjoy the wide array of cultural events hosted here, including the annual Haifa International Film Festival, a portside Jazz and Blues festival, the New Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and a variety of museums. On foot, by subway, or via cable car, students will never tire of the stunning facets Haifa and the surrounding sites of Israel offer to explore.

Housing

International students at the University of Haifa live in spacious apartments on campus. Participants receive their own bedroom with an en suite bathroom and access to shared kitchen, living space, and self-service laundry facilities. The apartment bedrooms are furnished with a bed, desk, linens, and closet space. Campus dorms house both Israeli and international students, allowing World Endeavors participants to integrate with Israeli culture and build relationships with local students.

Academic

After successful completion of the program, academic credit and transcripts will be issued by the University of Haifa. The University of Haifa is a fully-accredited, state recognized Israeli institution of higher learning.

The World Endeavors process is designed to take the guesswork out of academic credit and credit transfers. Our experienced advisors work with each student and his or her academic advisor before the program begins to ensure students earn the credit expected for courses taken abroad.

Eligibility

Students applying to this program should:

  • Be currently enrolled in a university or college and have completed at least 2 semesters of study
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or equivalent
  • Be fluent in English

Course Load

International students must take a minimum of 12 credits per semester, though, typically, course load is 15-16 credits. Courses are typically 3 to 4 credits each.

Summer Program Descriptions

INNOVATION ACADEMIC COURSE:

In this two-week program, students will learn about Israeli innovation, hear lectures from world-renowned Israeli professors, and study Israeli startup culture. In addition, the students will have opportunities to give roadshow presentations, share their startup ideas, and receive the mentorship of highly successful entrepreneur Dr. Kobi Inbar.

INTENSIVE HEBREW COURSE:

The two-week Intensive Hebrew Summer Ulpan at the University of Haifa immerses students in Hebrew and Israeli culture. Difficulty levels range from beginner to advanced and instruction accommodates all skill levels. Two sessions are offered for the months of July and August and students may enroll in one or both. Classes run from Sunday to Thursday for five hours a day, with the possibility of one or two Friday morning classes.

INTENSIVE SPOKEN ARABIC COURSE FOR BEGINNERS:

The University of Haifa’s Summer Spoken Arabic Intensive is a two-week immersion program for students interested in learning spoken Arabic. A heavy emphasis is placed on Arab culture as well, with conversations with native Arabic speakers, Arabic music, and trips to Arab cultural centers in Israel such as Druze villages in the Golan Heights, the Old City of Acre, and Jerusalem. Classes will meet four days a week for five hours.
