Insurance Coverage While Abroad

Just as insurance is important to have when you are at home, it is also an important consideration when you travel abroad. Participants in programs abroad can find, however, that discerning the best policy for international travel can be stressful and confusing. In order to dispel these worries, World Endeavors offers quality travel medical insurance to every participant for every program* we provide. World Endeavors programs include coverage through the International Volunteer Card, which offers travel and medical insurance and is provided through the largest travel insurance provider in the United States.

After you submit your application to go abroad with World Endeavors, your program advisor will talk with you about insurance coverage and ask if you have your own international insurance coverage (through your university, for example). If you do not, you will be enrolled in the World Endeavors insurance policy and offered coverage for the duration of your program.

About the International Volunteer Card

The International Volunteer Card covers travel and medical insurance for all programs –intern, study, volunteer, or customized group. Even though it is called a “volunteer” card, it works equally as well for interns and students traveling abroad.

Benefits of the International Volunteer Card

The International Volunteer Card includes extensive coverage for accidental medical expenses, sickness, medical expenses, emergency medical transportation, and repatriation. In addition to these health benefits, the card also provides travel assistance and insurance. The policy provides for 24/7 assistance for a wide variety of emergency travel needs. Some valuable services include emergency advancement of funds, emergency translation services, assistance with travel or baggage delays, replacement of a lost passport, and assistance locating doctors. And finally, card holders are also extended discounts at various retailers to help with purchasing items needed for their time abroad.
