Overview of Study Abroad Programs in China

Shift your world view by studying abroad in China. This vast and fascinating country will challenge your assumptions about the world and broaden your global perspective. From the language of Mandarin Chinese to the Chinese script, studying here will immerse you in a new culture.

You will be surprised to discover that China, one of the largest and most populated countries in the world, has many national parks and awe-inspiring national attractions like the non-touristy sections of the Great Wall to the waterfalls of Jiuzhaigou to the Huashan mountain. There are easy day trips into nature near most of the cities.

Immerse yourself in a world with deeply rooted traditions, where a culture that has developed over 3 000 years is still very much a way of life. Taste a world with very little Western influence, aided by the ‘Great Firewall’ where all social media (like Instagram and YouTube) are blocked, and learn to navigate native social networks like WeChat and Renren.

WHY STUDY IN CHINA

China is a country like no other. Studying here will allow you to see the world from a uniquely different perspective and shed many of your Western assumptions. This broadening of your global perspective will reflect well in the development of your resume. Nurture your global network as you make connections with local and international fellow students.

Mandarin Chinese is the second most spoken language in the world, so developing a basic understanding of this unique language will stand you in good stead as you venture into the world of work. Balance the high tech, orderly systems of modern cities like Beijing and Shanghai with the organic beauty of China’s national parks, while absorbing the deeply-rooted cultural practices of the Chinese people. Learn from global experts while in class, and grow your personal and intercultural competencies when outside of class exploring this intriguing country.

HIGHLIGHTS OF STUDYING IN CHINA

Here are just a few of the best things about studying in China:

  • Getting around China is affordable and easy, with a high speed rail network and easily accessible taxi services
  • As internal tourism within China is thriving, you can explore China’s tourist attractions and must-see sites without being surrounded by Western tourists
  • Exploring China is safe and you will always find locals happy to meet and chat to visitors (often using a translator app)
  • Savor the Chinese tea culture and food by sampling the many different teas and dishes from each region
